Built by clinicians, for clinicians.
Beats Health was founded by a team of physicians, nurses, and engineers who lived the problem firsthand — and decided to fix it.
Restore the human side of medicine.
The average physician spends more than two hours on administrative tasks for every hour of direct patient care. That's not a technology problem — it's a design problem. Clinical software was built for billing and compliance, not for the people using it.
Beats Health exists to change that. We build AI that works in the background — listening, routing, documenting, and coordinating — so clinicians can do what they trained for: care for patients.
Admin hours to patient care hours — the ratio we're fixing.
The founding story.
The problem becomes personal
Co-founder Dr. James Okafor, a hospitalist at a large academic medical center, starts tracking how much of his shift is spent on documentation. The answer: 47%. He starts sketching a different way.
The team comes together
James connects with Maya Patel (engineering) and Dr. Lena Fischer (clinical informatics). Together they build the first prototype of ambient documentation — tested quietly in a single unit at a partner hospital.
First health system deployment
Beats Health deploys across three departments at Memorial Health. Within 90 days, documentation time drops 38%. The clinical staff ask to expand it themselves.
Platform launch
The full Beats Health platform — AI-enabled documentation, clinical workflow automation, EHR data management, and the Charge Portal — launches to health systems and multi-site practices across the country.
Our values.
Clinicians first
Every product decision starts with one question: does this make a clinician's day better? If the answer isn't clearly yes, we don't ship it.
Invisible by design
The best AI is the kind you don't notice. We build automation that works in the background — no new workflows, no new screens, no new burden.
Trust through transparency
Every AI output is reviewable, auditable, and correctable. Clinicians stay in control. We earn trust by making it easy to verify everything we do.
Outcomes over features
We measure success in minutes returned to patient care, not in feature releases. If it doesn't move the needle clinically, it doesn't matter.
Meet the people behind Beats Health.
Hospitalist physician and health systems researcher. Former faculty at UCSF. Spent 10 years watching clinicians drown in documentation before deciding to do something about it.
ML engineer with a background in NLP and clinical informatics. Previously led AI infrastructure at a major health tech company. Obsessed with systems that disappear into the background.
Emergency physician and clinical informaticist. Designed clinical decision support systems for 8 years before joining Beats Health to build something that actually helps at the point of care.
Distributed systems engineer. Built real-time data pipelines at scale for healthcare and fintech. Joined Beats Health to work on a problem that actually matters.
Former CMO of a regional health system. Brings the operator's perspective to every deployment — ensuring Beats Health works the way clinical teams actually work.
Product designer with a decade of experience in clinical software. Believes that good design in healthcare is a patient safety issue, not just an aesthetic one.
